HOW TO RECYCLE YOUR OLD BATTERIES

POWEREX TIPS

You try to turn on your device, but the batteries are dead. You take them out, but what do you do with those dead batteries now? You either decide to simply just throw them away in the trash or toss them somewhere to recycle them “one day.” But did you know that dead batteries can spark and even cause a fire if not properly stored or recycled? Ditch those disposable batteries and switch to Powerex rechargeable batteries, which can be recharged up to 1000 times.

Here are some tips to help you safely store your old batteries until you are ready to recycle them.

Different Ways to Safely Protect the Batteries

  • Return the batteries to its original packaging

  • Or Tape the Positive terminals with non-conductive clear tape, duct tape, or electrical tape

  • Or Wrap multiple batteries together with tape or a rubber band with ALL Positive ends facing the same direction and place them in a clear sealed bag

How to Safely Store the Batteries

  • Use a non-metal container to store your taped or bagged batteries
    • Container Ideas:  Zip lock bag or repurpose an old milk jug, yogurt container, shoe box, or plastic storage bin

  • Store the batteries in a cool dry place or room temperature. Avoid direct sunlight or extreme heat.

  • Always avoid placing loose batteries in drawers or locations that contain other metal objects to prevent any contact that could cause a spark (coins, paper clips, screws, etc.)

Ready to Recycle the Batteries

  • Once you are ready to recycle the batteries, find a drop-off location near you at Call2Recycle
* Since some location hours may have changed due to COVID-19, we suggest calling first to confirm their hours and ensure they are accepting batteries

Powerex Rechargeable Batteries

Did you know it takes about 100 years for a single-use disposable battery to fully decompose? Use rechargeable batteries over disposable batteries. Powerex rechargeable batteries can be recharged up to 1,000 times, which means a single Powerex battery can replace up to 1,000 disposable batteries.
